What it is
Traditional paint protection film is a thick urethane sheet cut to shape and laid onto panels. It works, but it's expensive, it has visible edges, and over years those edges can lift, collect dirt, and yellow.
Liquid Protection Film delivers comparable physical protection without the sheet. It bonds at the molecular level to paint and headlight lenses, curing into a clear, flexible layer that resists light scratches and minor impacts — and because it's applied as a liquid, it follows complex curves with no seams and no edges.
It's also self-healing: light marring within the layer closes up with heat rather than staying as permanent scratching.
The distinction that matters
These get confused constantly, and they solve genuinely different problems.
Ceramic coating is chemical protection. Gloss, hydrophobic water behavior, UV resistance, and defense against contaminants etching into clear coat. It's microns thick and provides essentially no impact resistance.
LPF is physical protection. A thicker, flexible layer that absorbs light impacts and resists scratching, with self-healing behavior.
